The opening concert brings together two of France's foremost musicians. Following on from a memorable Marriage of Figaro with the Vienna State Opera in 2018, Alain Altinoglu returns to the Easter Festival at the helm of another great European operatic institution, la Monnaie de Bruxelles to conduct Tchaikovsky's highly romantic Violin Concerto, performed by Renaud Capuçon.
The maestro's programme also includes his two artistic favourites, Wagner and Strauss. The Prelude to Tristan und Isolde unfurls over one ecstatic accord, that spreads powerfully through the entire orchestra.
The tone of Till Eulenspiegel is clearly more playful; the musical expression of the ominous trickster, coloured with pastoral sonorities and an extraordinary orchestral palette.
